Adrian’s Desert Island Beer Labels #10

For my last label, I have chosen another label from Scotland. For a long time Scottish labels have been my second collecting interest after Yorkshire and I have always been interested in the history of the Bass Crest Brewery. The Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth, and the brewery name were registered trade marks, but there was a long battle with Bass, Ratcliff and Gretton of Burton over the use of the Bass Rock trade mark and the brewery name. Apparently, another company using the word ‘Bass’ was seen as a threat. The problem was resolved in 1918 when Bass bought the brewery, and all trade marks. The brewery went to George Younger and became the Grange Brewery, closed in 1941.
