Page & Overton’s Breweries Ltd

The Shirley Brewery was acquired by Nathaniel Page in 1889. The Royal Oak Brewery was founded by Henry Overton in 1854. The two companies merged in 1892 to form Page & Overton’s Brewery Ltd. In 1903, the Shirley Brewery was closed and the Royal Oak Brewery renamed the Shirley Brewery. They were bought out by Hoare & Co Ltd in 1929, but brewing continued until 1954.

It’s great to see these labels. I am a descendant of the Overton family-my grandmother was an Overton. Thank you. Bridget Fellows

    Hi Bridget,

Hope you are Well, I have been researching my family History The “Wallis’s”of 18 & 46 Surrey street Croydon and it is with interest I have found they must have known Henry Overton as they where in the same Lodge, lived next door to him in Surrey street and lived at number 7, Overtons Yard as in the 1891 census. Bridget I hope there may be some mentioned of my family in the research you have. Looking forward to you reply. Take Care of yourself Terry Wallis

I have acquired a Page and Overton flagon from a friend and wondered how old it was. It looks like it possibly dates from 1892 to 1903.
Any further information would be appreciated.
    Thanks
