Burt & Co.

The Ventnor Brewery on the Isle of Wight was founded in 1840. Although the company was acquired by Albert Philips in 1906, the Burts name was retained and brewing continued as Burt & Co. Geoff Hartridge started the Island Brewery in Newport in 1991 and in 1993 acquired the Burt’s name and renamed it Burt’s Brewery (Newport) Ltd. The former Burt’s site in Ventnor closed in 1992 and was bought by a business consortium in 1995, trading as the Ventnor Brewery Ltd until 2009 when it finally closed. Thanks to Geoff for the correct historical information.
