Label Of The Year Judging – This Saturday – Do Not Miss It!

The judging for this year’s “Label Of The Year” competition will be held in the Courtyard Room of the Duke Of York public house at 23/25 Greenhill, Lichfield, WS13 6DY. This Saturday 5th September from 12 noon. The Courtyard Room is at the back of the pub adjacent to the front and back bars. The pub is a Joules house (one of two in the City, the other being the Angel Inn in Market Street) and is reputedly the oldest pub in Lichfield. Although the original Joules Brewery was at Stone in Staffordshire, the current company operates from a new brewery in Market Drayton in Shropshire, but has brought a once-famous brewing name back to the Midlands.
The Duke of York serves the normal range of Joules beers plus a couple of guest ales. A cold buffet will be provided during the afternoon and if you would like to attend please pay on the day (£5 to cover room and refreshments). Eric Doré will be delighted to relieve you of your cash on the day.

There will be an auction as usual and of course the chance to ‘eye up’ all those new labels, that you’ll just have to buy at our October LOTY meeting. See below!

Please remember that this year, we are raising funds for Cancer Research, in memory of the late Des Clarke, so please bring your deep pockets!

The pub is located at Greenhill, about 8 minutes’ walk from Lichfield City Station (London Midland – Cross City Line from Birmingham). Turn right out of the station up the main road past Debenhams and the pub will be front left after the 3rd set of traffic lights. Alternatively the pub is about 20 minutes’ walk from Lichfield Trent Valley [low level] Station (West Coast Main Line, served by Virgin trains from London / Manchester /Preston and London Midland Trains from London / Crewe / Stafford / Tamworth / Nuneaton / Rugby / Milton Keynes). Walk up the station approach, turn left on the main road, go straight across the roundabout and keep walking up until you reach Greenhill. If you want to truncate this walk there is a 15–20 minutes service from Lichfield Trent Valley [high level] Station to Lichfield City (London Midland Cross City Line – one stop). Lichfield also has a newly opened Premier Inn for any who want to stay overnight.

    OMG! What a great meeting!
Pete S. did a superb of assembling all the LOTY 2015 entries on the display job for the judging! Fantastic Pete well done again this year! And what a wondrous batch of labels that were entered into the competition! Many, many thanks to all those breweries out there that entered their labels in the competition! If you didn’t enter your brewery’s labels you must ask yourself ‘Why not’ because you missed out!
And on top of the LOTY Judging, there were SO MANY labels being swapped and sold between those members present it was fantastic to see and be a part of it! If you were not there, YOU MISSED OUT BIG TIME!
