Toby Jugs, Crown Caps & our London meeting

Anyone who took the time to venture into central London, for our joint winter meeting with the guys from ABBC, will no doubt have enjoyed the afternoon, the company & the Harveys ales. Some twenty people turned up, mainly from the South East. However the furthest travelled, were from Yorkshire & Staffordshire. We also were delighted to welcome 2 surprise guests, who discovered the date of the meeting via the good old interweb! One who, had he not now resided in London, would have walked away with furthest travelled title, was Mathias from Germany. He collects crown caps and was delighted to find that one of the ABBC guys also collects these, so exchanges were arranged. Our other surprise visitor collects Toby jugs, not any old Toby though. Just those produced for Hoare & Co. & Charringtons. He is keen to add to his collection, so should you have any that are surplus to your requirements or indeed know of any, which might be available to a new home. Let us know via the ‘Getting in Touch’ page and we will put you in touch. Elsewhere there was healthy exchanges of labels, bottles, gossip & news. Personally it was great to catch up with people, whom I have not seen for a good while and to learn their news over a few pints of the excellent Old Ale.

If you missed this meeting, well there will be another this time next year. Of course if you cannot wait that long, keep your eye on these pages for details of our Spring meeting. This is likely to be somewhere in the Midlands in March.

  • Fascinated by beer labels

The mention of bottle caps has led me to suggest you look at eBay item 171220633440
Its not just label collectors that astound.

I see what you mean, £437 for a single crown cap & 5 bidders. Maybe we are in the wrong sphere of breweriana collecting? I guess that must be a pretty rare item. Someone is a a happy bunny!
