I am delighted to advise everyone, who did not attend this meeting, that they missed a great afternoon. A good crowd made the trip compared with last year and in total some 18 people took part in the judging, swopping & sale of labels. Even some of our accompanying wives enjoyed some socializing between shopping excursions. What was there not to enjoy, an excellent buffet provided by Greg & his staff, together with 5 or 6 real ales from the Brampton Brewery, the same number from the on site Brunswick Brewery and several guest ales as well. There were even half a dozen draught ciders available, if you were a zider drinker.
Our judges Peter D. Mick J. & John S. did a great job, studying & deliberating over the labels of over 160 breweries from the UK & Ireland. Their consensus was that in general, the overall quality of labels was much higher than last year and consequently they found the judging to be more difficult than in previous years. So the decisions have been made and in the coming week or so the winners will be notified. So that they may join us at Charles Wells, Eagle Brewery in Bedford to receive their award certificates. Full results together with the total raised for this years charities, will be published after the LOTY event on 19th October.
New ‘Featured Brewery’ added today – Kirkstall Brewery. 2 new Spot the Differences in the blog, which no doubt you will have seen already. 5 new label images added to the ‘Gallery’, check out the D’s, F’s, G’s and S’s pages.
Always happy to receive submissions from members, just forward to our webmaster (via our ‘Getting in Touch’ page). Please send individual label images as jpegs or pdfs.

Sorry for the lack of updates over the last week or so, it becomes rather manic at this time of year. However the label display boards are now virtually complete, labels all sorted and the deadline for entries has now officially expired. So apart from anything else, the postie is happy. It’s all over for another year and he can revert to delivering junk mail & bills. On a happier note, we are delighted that over 160 breweries have chosen to take part in LOTY 2013 and as a result support this year’s charities. MacMillan Cancer Support & Keech Hospices. As you know LOTY judging is a members only event and once again this year, will take place upstairs at the Brunswick Inn, Derby, this coming Saturday. The Brunswick is within very easy walking distance from Derby train station, which is fortunate for anyone sampling one too many of the excellent beers OTB. See you on Saturday
Had a chat with long suffering postie today, as he asked what Labology was all about and why he was lugging all these deliveries for LOTY around the countryside. I explained and he was of course duly impressed (I think, if not perhaps he should take up acting as an alternative career). Anyway he has delivered entries from
Sunny Republic Brewing Co. Cross Bay Brewery, Fool Hardy Ales @ The Hope Inn, Cotleigh Brewery – Thanks to all of you for your support
Today the good old postie, who must be decidedly fed up with LOTY, delivered the following entries.
George Bateman & Son, Woodforde Norfolk Ales, Mile Tree Brewery Ltd
For all you Tweeps out there, we have finally reached the 200 follower mark. Am sure if our members were to sign up & follow we would soon pass another milestone. It really is easy (it must be, I managed it) and you might just be surprised, who & what you can find both locally & nationally. Think about it.
Delighted to receive entries from Mash Brewery & Elland Brewery. The new Champion beer of Britain, 1872 Porter is produced by Elland and they have been kind enough to enter this label.
Delighted to receive entries from Mountain Man Brewing in Co. Cork & Fell Brewery in Cumbria.
Just a week to go to this year’s deadline. more entries promised. So thanks again to everyone who has or plans to support LOTY 2013
